:: UPTU vice-chancellor discharges registrar from office for rewarding irregular affiliations ::

Vice-chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) RK Khandal on Saturday relieved registrar U S Tomer from his office for doing irregularities in the affiliation process for the academic session 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Reportedly, the V-C stated that the registrar is to be relieved from his duty till an inquiry against him is completed. Khandal on Friday constituted a high-powered committee headed by former justice Alok Kumar Singh. The committee will investigate the sequence of events in the affiliation process given to 44 colleges last year.

As per reports, Tomer has allegedly given affiliation to 44 colleges violating SC orders, which has set May 15 as deadline for granting or refusing affiliation. Last year, affiliation to 44 colleges was given after May 15.

On Saturday, the order was issued by the V-C to registrar at around 5 pm.

However, criticizing the orders Tomer said that the orders are against the provisions of UP Technical Act 2000. He said,"Section 13 of the Act states clearly that the registrar is appointed by state government, so any changes can also be made only by the state government. The current order has been issued without any approval of the government."

Also he said that he will not obey the orders and will continue with his job.

Tomer is also accused of developing a non-official website and opening a bank account to invite online applications for affiliation for academic session 2014-15.
