:: UPTU to be named as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh ::

Finally confirmed on 31st July, Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) after the name of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

In a late Friday night decision, the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the late president had immense affection with the state and very recently he inaugurated the 250 kilowatt solar power plant in the Kannauj district.

"I have been greatly impressed by the farsighted thoughts and principals of Kalam. During his recent visit to the state he had given nine formulas for the economic and social development of the state and we are seriously working on it", Yadav said.

The UPTU which now be known as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (APJAKTU) was earlier renamed as Gautam Budha Technical University (GBTU) by Mayawati during her last regime in the state.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was regarded worldwide as a personality who has dedicated his entire life towards science and technology and also towards academics. This renaming of UPTU was totally intended to give Dr. Kalam a grand tribute for his works. The Chief Minister also stated that how Dr. Kalam’s visions and principal have been a great influence for him and he would also like the young generation to follow his foot steps. This is the first step towards provoking the students to get inspiration from Dr. Kalam’s life.

Addressing a meeting, Akhilesh Yadav also emphasized on improving the education standards as well as the infrastructure of UPTU. Adding to his speech, the Chief Minister also stated that the government would provide full cooperation for guidance of the students who are studying under UPTU so that they get a better career option, be it nationally or globally.
